Lake Turkana, covering an area of 4 500km2, is both an exceptional wildlife reserve (especially on Central Island which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and an important archaeological site (Koobi Fora). The lake’s dark green waters are an impressive sight in the sunlight, although the water is not suitable for swimming (crocodiles) and the area is considered dangerous.
