Land Between Tour
The land between bridges the New Territories to their motherland China. Discover this diverse area's suburban environs and rural charms. Begin your tour at Yuen Yuen Institute. Founded in 1950, this 10 acre (4 hectare) compound is comprised of a collection of temples, pavilions and monasteries all dedicated to Confucian, Buddhist, and Taoist beliefs. The harmony amongst religions at Yuen Yuen resonates in the beautiful architecture and the tranquility of the grounds, dotted with decorative gardens and ponds.
Next, head for the hills to visit Honk Kong's highest vantage point, Tai Mo Shan. From the 3,143-foot-high (958-meter) mountaintop, take in the refreshing air and panorama of Hong Kong Island, mainland China and the rolling green hills to the west. Descend the mountain past Shek Kong military camps and into the wooded valley of Lam Tseuen to visit Fanling Walled Village. Notice the cannons, watchtowers, and bullet holes–a testament to the defensive capabilities of this old ancestral dwelling. Built by the Pang clan who arrived in Hong Kong hundreds of years ago during the Song Dynasty, this walled village is home to a hall where ancestral worship is still practiced today.
Just opposite of China's border, stop by Starling Inlet. Near base hills and a traditional farming village, observe the grace of pond and night herons where they nest in the waters of a picturesque bird sanctuary. Then, cast a glance at Sam Mun Tsai to learn how local fishermen breed fish in submerged cages. Include lunch at a Cantonese restaurant when booking by selecting the appropriate ticket type below.
