Hong Kong Island is divided into different districts, some modern, some British, others Chinese and traditional. Central, squashed between the China Sea and Victoria Peak, is the financial district and it shows. The Stock Exchange stands on Exchange Square and is surrounded by proud skyscrapers (Star Ferry Pier, IFC Mall, HSBC Tower) and shopping centres linked by footbridges. This modern district is, however, still home to a few colonial buildings and houses, such as the Legislative Council, where laws are still passed.
