Modern and yet already outdated, the exterior of this museum built in 1998 is not particularly noteworthy. On the other hand, the museum’s collections provide an excellent introduction to any visit to Hong Kong. The museum has three separate themes, all of which focus on Hong Kong and its surrounding region: natural history (geology and marine fauna), ethnography (the ethnic groups of the south), and local history with beautiful models of boats and incredible life-size (or nearly) reconstructions of the streets of old Hong Kong.
