Laid out in 1861, the northern section of Nathan Road is mainly residential, with its colonial-style houses, a charming Anglican church and Kowloon Park. The road becomes busier and more frenetic as you get closer to the sea, turning into a major thoroughfare swarming with people, bathed in neon lights and lined with large shops. All the shopping centres here stay open until midnight. The Chungking Mansions, an Indian enclave in the heart of Kowloon, are an unusual sight.
