Macau was built by the Portuguese in the 16C on a site captured from pirates, and this powerful trading post gradually built up commerce with the entire world. Macau is a mix of East and West – this can be seen in the faces of its inhabitants and in its architecture, and its food is a delicious combination of influences. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
