Situated in the heart of Macau, Senado Square has an attractive atmosphere, with its outdoor terraces, delightful fountain and pastel-coloured colonial architecture. One of the most striking buildings on the square is the large white Leal Senado (1789), which is typically Portuguese in style. Now the Institute of Civil and Municipal Affairs, the azulejo-tiled patio of the building is open to the public.
