Unearth two treasures of Beijing on this full-day tour. Descend into the earth to an underground tomb of Ming Dynasty emperors. Then travel to Mutianyu–one of the older and more unique sections of China's Great Wall.
Discover the Underground Palace (also know as Dingling)–the burial site of 13 Ming Dynasty Emperors. While many of the tombs remain hidden and yet to be discovered, Emperor Wanli's final resting place is yours to explore. Dating back to the early 17th century, Wanli's tomb provides a glimpse into China's rich imperial history.
Between site visits, enjoy an included lunch at a local restaurant. Your day additionally includes the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. Steeper and more challenging to ascend than the more-touristy Badaling section, Mutianyu can be scaled either by a cable car ride or–for the ambitious–by climbing the more than 1,400 steps to the top, where a view of the surrounding woods and streams awaits. Built to defend the city and imperial tombs, the inner and outer parapets along its mile-plus (2,250-meter) stretch were constructed to allow soldiers to fire on the enemy from both sides, a feature not often seen in other parts of the wall.
