Founded in 1924, the Peasant Movement Training Institute is housed in the buildings of a 14C Confucian temple. It was home to 800 pupils for only six semesters and had three famous teachers, one of whom was Mao Zedong. In 1927, the Guomindang closed the school following the insurrection of Guangzhou. The living quarters have remained as they were, while the permanent exhibition is dedicated to the revolution. In one of the display cases, admire the impressive machete used by a graduate of the institute to lead village peasants in battle against local landowners.
