Time has stood still in Pingyao, its timeless decor evoking images of an old engraving lit by red lanterns. Protected by its old walls, the town has a long and rich history as demonstrated by its many temples and Ming and Qing houses. An old trading town, Pingyao has retained a lively atmosphere and traditional way of life. With washing hanging from windows and locals chatting on their doorsteps, old shops keep alive the traditional heritage of this town, which is now a World Heritage Site.
