Take a journey 16 miles (25 kilometers) west of downtown Shanghai to Zhujiajiao, one of the best-protected water villages in China. Spend a couple hours strolling around the town's lake, canals, rivers, and shops and absorbing all the accompanying local flavor and culture. Later, on the return trip to Shanghai, learn how world-famous South China silk is made with a stop at a silk mill.
