Strolling along the Bund is akin to flicking through a pre-war directory of world banking, as every building here seems to have been a bank at some stage of its life. This one, built in 1923 by the HSBC (Hong Kong & Shanghai Banking Corporation), is a marvel of interior decor with its mosaics and frescoes, high-quality furniture, lamps and chandeliers typical of the Roaring Twenties. Today it is the Shanghai Pudong Development Bank which has made its home in this opulent setting.
