The World Financial Center (2008) is Shanghai’s tallest building (492m, 101 floors) and for a long time was the world’s highest tower before being dethroned by the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. Acutely sharp in design and with a large aperture at the very top, it rivals in elegance its neighbour, the Jinmao Tower, although its detractors view it as a giant bottle-opener. Three panoramic terraces, one of which has a transparent floor, offer extraordinary views over Shanghai.
