Numerous peasants from this region left the land in the 14C to successfully turn their hand to commerce. Like Qiao, Wang Shi was part of this group, going on to establish a dynasty of business dealers. Once he had made his fortune, he built for himself this residence comprising two palaces linked by a bridge and embellished with thirty or so courtyards and gardens. Less popular with visitors than its “cousin”, the Qiao family mansion, and less sophisticated in its architecture, the Wang family mansion makes for a pleasant visit.
