Historic district of Fort-de-France Interesting : Michelin's recommendations

A walk round the historic district of Fort-de-France, just behind the harbour, will unveil a host of picturesque traditional wooden houses and colonial edifices such as the spruce Pavillon Bougenot, dating from 1887, and Maison Saint-Cyr, in the lively shopping Rue Victor-Hugo. The heart of the district is the Jardin de la Savane, a delightful relaxing garden (best avoided in the evenings). To the far south stands St-Louis Fort, a citadel built in 1674, which can be admired from the bay.
