The Pitons (peaks) du Carbet, of which there are 6, owe their amazing shape to their volcanic origins, forming a spectacular backdrop to the Route de la Trace. Piton Lacroix, which attains 1,196m, commands a splendid view. Older than Mount Pelée, the landscape is the scene of a hike (Trace des Pitons) suited to experienced hikers, preferably with a guide. Nature lovers will be enchanted by the exceptional diversity of the lush vegetation: epiphytes, orchids, begonias, magnolias, etc.
