The deliberately conserved ruins dotted around the streets also paint a striking picture, occasionally revealing the beauty of the initial building, such as the ruins of the late-18C theatre (Rue Victor-Hugo). Nearby, the cell, which saved Louis Cyparis' life, one of the two sole survivors of the disaster, can be seen in the prison ruins.
