This peaceful fishing village became famous due to the shipwreck of the St Géran off its coast during the night of 17-18 August 1744 (not off the Baie du Tombeau as Bernardin de St Pierre wrote). At the end of Avenue Paul-et-Virginie, on a lovely cove with reddish-brown sand and black boulders, a stone monument erected in 1944 pays tribute to those who died in the tragedy. The village’s charming church blends nicely into the landscape, especially as you’re driving south on the B 15.
