Port Louis
Begin your tour at Fort Adelaide, a citadel promising sweeping views over the town of Port Louis and its elegant harbour. Descend into the busy centre and immerse yourself in the Central Market, complete with tantalising aromas, colourful displays of exotic fruit and vegetables, and the cry of market sellers.
Mauritian lunch
After visiting the Blue Penny Museum, home to the rare and valuable Blue Penny stamp, you'll head to Moka for a Mauritian feast. Sample Creole sausages, grilled salt fish, black lentils fricassee, cauliflower fricassee, and braised watercress, served with rice, salads, chutney, and chillies. Round your meal off with home-made banana tart, coconut delight, and papaya delight.
Pamplemousses botanical garden
Your tour continues with a drive around around Pieter Both mountains, down the scenic Long Mountain Road and toward the plains of Pamplemousses. Here, you have time to explore the Pamplemousses botanical gardens, which showcases giant Amazon water lilies, an extensive collection of palm trees, and many plants indigenous to the island.
