Water sports
The island of Mauritius is paradise for water sports.
Most hotels offer guests a wide variety of activities free of charge including windsurfing, sailing dinghies, kayaks and pedal boats. Scuba diving, deep-sea fishing and water-skiing require a supplement.
Deep-sea fishing – The best season is October to March.
Sailing cruises – Excursions to the lagoon’s islands. It is possible to rent a catamaran with a skipper.
Scuba diving and snorkelling – Beautiful sites. Spear-fishing and shell and coral picking are forbidden.
Semi-submersible – Excursions in the lagoon on board a semi-submersible vessel.
Submarines – At a depth of 30 metres, off the coast of Mont Choisy, near Grand Baie.
Surfing and bodysurfing – In the bay of Tamarin on the west coast from June to August.
Swimming – All the beaches are officially open to the general public, but the hotels have nabbed the most beautiful. Nudism is not allowed and topless bathing is only tolerated on hotel beaches.
Underwater walks – Equipment: a large helmet supplied with air.
Other activities
Golf – The hotels possess driving ranges and 9- and 18-hole courses that are open to the general public.
Horse riding – Inland and on the beach.
