The ecosystem on Rodrigues has suffered from the devastating intervention of mankind, which has exhausted the island’s natural resources through deforestation and slaughtering animal species (first among them being the tortoise). This reserve strives to reintroduce two species of giant tortoise in a reconstituted ecosystem, with the constant aim of keeping man's impact down to a minimum. A rewarding learning experience in a natural environment in the process of reasserting itself.
