From the A2 between Grande Rosalie and Port Louis you can see on your left, hidden by a bamboo hedge, the pale grey shingles of the Chateau de Villebague, former residence of Mahé de La Bourdonnais, then of Magon de la Villebague, another governor of Mauritius in the days of the East India Company. The home, the oldest on the island and a model of French colonial architecture, was also the first industrial sugarcane plantation on Mauritius.
