Taking a boat ride in a trajinera on the Xochimilco Canals south of the city is something you are sure to enjoy - along with many Mexicans. The atmosphere is always festive as the colourful boats, packed with families and musicians, cruise along the canals dotted with “floating gardens”, a legacy from Aztec lake agriculture. Boats leave from docks at Salitre and Nuevo Nativitas.
