Sans Juan Chamula
: Michelin's recommendations
The village of San Juan Chamula, fiefdom of the Tzotzil-speaking Chamula community who are strongly tied to their traditions, is to this day the scene of virulent conflicts between Catholics and Protestants. The village is known for its Sunday morning market where the Indians come en masse to buy and sell all sorts of foodstuffs as well as for the Church of San Juan Bautista, an ardent place of worship. The village is a big tourist destination, but bear in mind that taking photographs of Indians is not advised!
