Chichén Itzá
Chichén Itzá
: Michelin's recommendations
Chichén Itzá is a stereotype of Mexico and certainly the most popular Mayan site, explained by its fine state of preservation, its majesty, and the mystery surrounding its double identity. The most influential city on the Yucatán Peninsula, built on the edge of a large sacred cenote (natural well), it is both part of the Mayan area through its Puuc-style and part of the “Mexican” area (centre of the country) through its features inherited from the Toltecs. Such as the plumed serpent, the famed chac mool and colonnaded buildings like the ones at Tula.
