: Michelin's recommendations
The Governor’s Palace was built by “Lord” Chaac, who reigned at Uxmal in the early 10C and expanded the city’s influence. His throne, formed by two jaguars in the middle of the esplanade, faces the palace’s main door topped by a representation of a king sitting in state against a backdrop of twin-headed serpents. The palace, nearly 100m long and studded with 11 doorways, has a façade boasting a stunningly complex decor of stone mosaics composed of around 20,000 pieces including grotesques, meanders and lattice patterns!
