Eight images of Quetzalcóatl, the Feathered Serpent, cover the tableros (vertical parts) of this temple. Next to them are Maya figures and a symbol of the “New Fire”, the 5^th sun. Above them you can see other noble figures facing the stairway. Calendar glyphs inside the undulating serpents’ bodies indicate important dates. The meaning of these bas-reliefs, in particular the identity of the mysterious figures, has not been completely solved by specialists.
