This area, one of the most attractive in old Fez, was restored with support from the Fondation Mohammed Karim Lamrani for the Nejjarine Complex. At the far end of this well-proportioned square stands the fondouk Neijarine (late17C, housing theNejjarine Museum of Wood Arts and Crafts), whose monumental and highly decorated door is topped by a magnificent canopy. To the right is the famous Nejjarine fountain, a true “altar to water” in a pretty setting with zellige tiles. Even farther to the right is the Nejjarine Souk (for carpenters) exuding a sweet smell of cedar wood.
