A zaouia is a holy place - for teachings and also a sanctuary containing the mortal remains of a saint. At the back of the prayer room here lies the tomb of Moulay Idriss, the father of Fez. Pilgrims can leave an offering for the many beggars outside, in addition to the one they leave in the collection box. Non-Muslims, who are not allowed inside thezaouia, can try to peek inside through a door that is left open.
