The vast Grand Socco Square at the gates of the medina has a new lease on life after its successful renovation. It’s a lively place where the inhabitants, passersby and shopkeepers interact on a daily basis. The cheerful stalls in the covered market and the little surrounding shops are full of vegetables, fruits, spices, flowers and olives, with the scene dominated by the minaret of Sidi Bou Abib Mosque. For a break in the heart of the city, have a seat on one of the benches set up under the palm trees, take a stroll in Mendoubia Garden to the north, or in the garden around the Church of St. Andrew on Rue d’Angleterre.
