This garden was created in 1682 at the request of the doctors and pharmacists of Amsterdam, who wanted to propagate the medicinal plants brought back by the India Company. In greenhouses there are palms and tropical plants (including the water lily family), as well as the garden's star, Soehrensia bruchii, an extremely rare sort of cactus.
