Cut in 1664, this canal was named for the former convent of a regular order of nuns. Today the area is protected, and offers one of the best views of Amsterdam's canals. From the bridge level with Kerkstraat a row of a further seven bridges across the canal can be seen. Further down, on the Keizersgracht, there is fine row of old houses.
