Royal Palace (Koninklijk Paleis) Interesting : Michelin's recommendations

Erected in 1648 as a City Hall, this building was turned into a royal palace by Louis Bonaparte in 1808, following a fire. William of Orange, King of the United Provinces in 1814, made it his residence. Nowadays the Queen only makes occasional appearances here. The imposing but ungraceful rectangular building rests on 13 659 piles. The bells were cast by François Hémony. Above the east and west facades there are fine sculpted tympanums.

This is a wonderfull building, still in use by the Dutch Royal House. Built in the seventeenth century as the Town Hall of Amsterdam. It's paintings and sculptures were made by some of the most distinguished artists of the time and allude to Amsterdams influence and prosperity in the Dutch Golden Age. Louis Napoleon became king of Holland, converted the Town Hall into an palace. All the furniture, clocks and chandeliers date from that period. When you visit Amsterdam, go there and see it.

Allways consult the website, the Palace can be closed due to an oficial event.
