Vondel Park (Vondelpark) : Michelin's recommendations

This park was created in 1864 by Zocher, then enlarged in 1874 by his son. It is named after J. van den Vondel, a great 17th Century poet whose statue stands in the garden. Covering 45 hectares, the park is full of oaks, chestnuts, poplars, and Louisiana cypress trees (or catalpas), as well as a rose-garden and several ponds and fountains, and is much appreciated by walkers, cyclists and skaters. It also contains the Cinema museum. Vondelpark is open all the time, even at night.
