Renowned for its farming markets (April and October), Appingedam is a welcoming town with a long pedestrianised street, the Dijkstraat Promenade, and is crossed by the Damsterdiep canal. From the footbridge (Vrouwenbrug) over the canal, a pretty view of the "hanging kitchens" and the belfry of the town hall. The town's marina is located in the centre.
