Grote of St.-Lebuïnuskerk
Grote of St.-Lebuïnuskerk : Michelin's recommendations
This Romanesque church was consecrated to the Saxon apostle Lebuin. Started around 1040, the church was later rebuilt in Gothic style, first from 1235 onwards and then again during 15C. On the West side of this vast building is a tower (which affords a beautiful view of Deventer) surmounted by a wooden lantern, constructed by H. de Keyser, while the bells are attributed to Hemony. The interior bears the characteristics of a hall. Note the 16C painting 'The Ascent of Calvary' at the entrance near the tower as well as the Romanesque crypt (1040).
