The central square is dominated by the former neoclassical town hall (1860), which houses the office of tourism and the Gorcums Museum. Note at no. 23 the small Baroque gate named Hugo Grootpoortje, a remnant of the house in which the illustrious thinker Grotius (17 C) took refuge after escaping from Loevestein (Dordrecht synod).
