Gouda : Michelin's recommendations

This town is both peaceful and full of resources and owes its fame to its cheeses, pipes, candles, pottery and ceramics. Brewing and trade made Gouda very rich in the 15C. After a century of decline (16C), the town rose to prominence again in the 17C as a result of the cheese trade and the manufacture of pipes. Gouda is the birthplace of Cornelis de Houtman (16C), founder of the first Dutch trading post in the East Indies.
