At the mouth of three great rivers (the Rhine, Meuse and Escaut), the provinces of South Holland and Zeeland meet the North Sea, forming a succession of islands and estuaries; the threatened “delta” region. Get a feel for the hi-tech battle against the rising water by following the road which takes in the anti-storm dams and runs along the reinforced dykes. The huge dam of the eastern Escaut, and the Brouwersdam protect some picturesque villages.
