Created in 1986, the province of Flevoland is made up of various polders reclaimed from the Zuiderzee: East, South and Northeast Flevoland. The entire province lies below sea level. The Polders Museum has a permanent exhibition on the Zuiderzee project, covering dyke construction, the draining of new polders, and the challenges faced by their pioneering inhabitants.
