Still preserved to the south of the town, these walls dominated by towers, shaded by trees and bordered by gardens are one of the charms of Maastricht. On the two sections still there the path round the battlements has pretty views over the lakes from the top of the first tower, over the Bejaardencentrum Molenhof a building on the north side of the ramparts and over an old watermill near to the Jeker, then casrrying on to the circular bastion of the Five Heads, over a vast stretch of water.
