Medemblik : Michelin's recommendations

When it received its City Charter in 1289, Medemblick became the Capital of Western Friesland. Once a part of the Hanseatic League, today it is the one of the "dead towns" of the old Zuiderzee. To the north of the town is the Ir pumping station. Lely is the most important of the stations which keep this polder dry. A tourist railway ( stoomstram ) links the town to Hooorn while a boat service runs between Medemblik and Enkhuizen.
