This villa was built in 1938 by G.W. Baas and K. Stokla. Its austere and functional style, and the materials and techniques used (glass, steel, flat roof, white-washed walls) are representative of Nieuwe Bouwen, an architectural movement of the 20s, 30s and 40s. The house has been home, since 1991, to the drawings and paintings of the Expressionist Hendrik Chabot. One of the artist's preferred themes is the suffering of refugees in wartime, expressed through dark colours and monumental shapes.
