This square was entirely remodelled by Adriaan Geuze. Built on top of an underground car-park, it is surfaced with metal plates, some of which can be raised to form a podium. The three vast desk-lamps that illuminate the square can be controlled by the public. The building with the corrugated facade, situated to the west of Schouwburgplein, contains the big Pathé cinema complex, designed by K. van Velsen. The theatre was built by W. Quist in 1988.
