This vast extent of clean white sand is almost 1.5km wide. There is a good view of all of the Westerburenweg (a path which ends in the dunes).

The former power station is today an exhibition centre displaying the varied landscapes of the island. The centre also contains some bones from sperm whales which beached on Ameland in 1997 and a small history and culture section.

A statue of a monk standing on the lawn recalls the island's past. An arch made of two huge whale bones is a reminder of the whaling once practised in the region.
