Staphorst : Michelin's recommendations
The neighbouring places of Staphorst and Rouveen form a world apart in the Netherlands. They are governed solely according to the principles of a harsh Protestantism and are fiercely opposed to any innovations of modern life: a ban on vaccinations since 1971, a ban on cars during Sunday services, wearing of traditional costume for women and young girls (who refuse to be photographed). The local farmhouses are colourful and thatched and very picturesque.
