The Korte Vijverberg provides a fine view over the rectangular basin where the windows of the Chamber of Truces and the First Chamber are reflected in the water, as is the Mauritshuis, the Prime Minister's octagonal tower. An elegant jet of water rises from the lake and in the centre there is an island planted with trees: swans used on occasion to make it their home.
