The shaded side avenues of the Lange Voorhout - their broad lawns brightened by crocuses in the springtime - are flanked by the finest residences in the Hague, most of them occupied by embassies. In the summer a large antiques fair brings life to the neighbourhood. The former palace of Queen Emma, wife of William III, stands at the end of the main avenue, and nowadays serves as an annex to the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, where temporary exhibitions are held.
