The name of this miniaturised town is a tribute to George Maduro, an officer who was deported to Dachau then killed in 1945. The creation of Madurodam dates back to 1952. The models, built on a scale of 1: 25, bring together Holland's most typical buildings, sites and landscapes: fields of flowers, windmills, farms and famous monuments. Renovated in 1990, Madurodam now includes modern elements, with trains, cars and buses, while at night it is a city of lights.
