This gallery of paintings occupies the second floor of the house beside the Prison Gate. Started in 1773 and reflecting the taste of William V, the collection is mostly made up of 17th Century landscapes. Bequeathed to the state in 1815 by William I, part of the collection was moved to the Mauritshuis in 1822. Today numerous exceptionally fine paintings can be seen, among them works by Ph. Wouwerman, J. Steen, J. van der Heyden, and P. Potter.
